Rationale by Nick

The animation is about Filipino identity, the shared love for family and the basic things in life that brings life to people in the country. The song, “Dover” by the Westerlies, embodies the pulse of that life-force.

Explanation of imagery:

• House – the source of family.  it starts the animation and sets the mood of home.
• Mountain – a contrast to a Filipino home. it depicts a European mountain, which expresses a contrasting grandeur to the humility of a regular Filipino home.
• Cola in Canal – trash is common in the Philippines, but it finds a way to move around the country like the people who live in it.
• Parked Car – a symbol of rest and relaxation, or bonding with the family (day-off)
• Woman in Train with SM Bag – recreational shopping contrasted with the familiar tiring business of MRT stations in Manila.
• Railway and Highway – emphasizes the speed at which Filipinos usually live.
• Classroom – boredom in high school is a common experience. It contrasts with the previous train image.
• School Food (Baon) – A symbol of quiet familial love
• Philippine Flag and the Sea – symbol that being Filipino is not a temporary existence but can continue outside the country (or more figuratively, in the afterlife)
